After a few days in S.F., we breathed a sigh of relief to be in Berkeley. It is true there were less homeless and mentally ill people, but as well, there wasn't as much hyper pricing, either. Things were pretty much as we left them...More

Shattuck to me is the place to find the best food at Chez Panisse or the best coffee in Berkeley right across the street at the old French Hotel. The Imperial Tea Court upstairs, above Chez Pannis is a hidden gem with it's beautiful little...More

Lots of inexpensive ethnic restaurants, many aimed at the student crowd. Some bookstores and a few interesting shops. Some movie theaters and a couple of major performance theaters are nearby. Lots of food traffic. Transit hubs. Too many street people, especially young drifters.

If you want to get to know Berkeley quickly, just take a long walk down this street...you can "recover" with a drink at Chez Panisse restaurant.

Wide variety of unusual shops and exotic food places. You could eat out every day for a week and not cover all the different type of restaurants.

What a gem- the Crossroads Consignment store. Ended up buying a Kate Spade and a See by Chloe leather bag. Both in great condition, both cheaper than regular used-retail price.

The Gourmet Ghetto is a wonderful several block long shopping district. Home to Chez Panise and The Cheeseboard and the Thursday afternoon organic farmers' market, among other things. Definitely stop by The Cheeseboard. If you ask for a type of cheese, they will pull out...More
