We really enjoyed our visit here although the staff at the ticket/shop are not so friendly. It is an amazing site and our young people had a great time paddling in Galilee.

One of the highlights of our visit to the Holy Land were the ruins of Capharnaum, the fishers' village where Jesus lived for an important part of his active life. Boarding the lake of Galilea. For people involved in Congo, the spot on the ground with the form of Congo's map is important.

Stopped here when touring sites around the Sea of Galilee. This spot, which has been rebuilt numerous times is the place where Jesus preached - His home church. A newer church is built over the remains of an ancient village in order to preserve the artifacts. Nearby, what looks like old ruins is actually a rebuilt church on the site where the original church existed. Quite a bit of history and interesting.

This is the town Jesus called home and the hometown of St. Peter on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Archaeologists are relatively certain they have identified the home of St. Peter. Regardless, the excavation here shows what the town was like at the time of Jesus.

It is here that Jesus taught in the synagogue, healed Peter's mother and others and spoke to the crowds on a nearby Mt of the Beatitudes. If you go to the Holy Land this is a must see. Touch the Sea Of Galilee and read the story of Jesus again.

Capharnaum, the Town of Jesus, is it definetely the most interesting archaeological site in the vicinity of Tiberias. Ample parking and two different spots to check, the house of Peter and the main temple. The later offers some nice photographic opportunities and is the most impressive building in the whole of Tiverias in my opinion. You can also check the lake shores from the other side of the site. The modern church was closed when we got there, but then again everyting closes at 14.00 so it takes some effort to drive around and visit all the different locations around the lake.

This is a must visit especially for believers. This site is believed to be where Jesus preached >2000 years ago and this area is also where he performed some of his miracles. There is also a site here where it is believed Peter's house used to sit.

I could have stayed there the whole day. Unfortunately we were part of a tour group, and the tour guide did not allow much time for this visit. I will go back for sure

This was one of the highlights of the entire trip! Over half of Jesus’ documented miracles happened in this area. It has been really well preserved... especially Peter’s house. It sits right on the edge of the Sea of Galilee and is a beautiful place! We spent about 1.5-2 hours there but I literally could have stayed ALL day!

I loved seeing the remnants of the basalt synagogue, below the more famous one in the photo, because it is very likely the place where Yeshua spent Shabbat when he was in town. I also loved seeing what they think is the home of Peter. When I was there (twice, 1996 and 2000) it was required that women cover shoulders and knees, and no shorts for me, so beware.

We visited Capharnaum on our trip to Israel last summer (and on our previous trip to the holy Land about 5 or 6 years ago) and were very inspired and pleased to be there. The opportunity to walk where Christ walked two thousand years ago is so awe inspiring and unique that it should not be missed. Viewing the remains and ruins of the ancient town gives one a completely different concept of how Our Lord and the people of His time lived. It is much different from the classical pictures and mental images that one might have from grade school Bible History. Even a so-so spiritual person can feel closer, and more understanding of the New Testament and the Life of Christ after walking the lanes of the ruins of Capharnaum.
Don't miss it!
