The Mount of Beatitudes is where the faithful heard Jesus deliver the Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes. The site is quite beautiful, it is easy to imagine a large crowd of people listening to Jesus with admiration. The Church is an attractive place of worship. The Mount of Beatitudes is not ancient, but it is quite spectacular.

We crossed the Korazim Plateau, in northern Israel. There are pilgrims on a hill. Jesus delivered his Sermon on the Mount here. The Beatitudes and the Lord's Prayers are tenets of Christianity.
On the hill are churches and chapels. We are inside the Church of Beatitudes, ministered by the Franciscans. It was built and funded by Benito Mussolini with designs by an Italian architect in 1938. The floor plan is octagonal representing the 8 Beatitudes. Pope John Paul II conducted Mass on the Mount Beatitudes in 2000.

Beautiful views with a beautiful church. We were 50 members on a Holy Land tour and conducted Mass in one of the outdoor available places to do so. Definitely a must-do on a Holy Land tour!

This is a beautiful place to visit, however, some parts can be crowded (church) and bottlenecks form in places near the entry and exit. Dozens of tour buses were here.

We visited here and were struck by how beautiful the site is, sitting right on the Sea of Galilee. It was very peaceful to walk around and to visit the beautiful church. Of course we also learned quite a bit about the history of the area, which added to our visit.

The church is set at the top of the mountain but the gardens and surrounding olive groves themselves are worthy of a visit also. The foliage is extremely well tended and there is the usual gift shop which tends to lower the spiritual atmosphere. It can get very crowded at times.

Nice place to see and I would expect to be on many tours of Israel.
As ever it will be busy with your groups but it didn’t feel crowded as it is well organised and well maintained.
As always it helps to understand how this place fits into the story of the Holy Land

The Church sits upon the mountainside overlooking the Sea (lake) of Galilee.
Beautiful and impressive inside the church while the outside provides amazing views of the Sea of Galilee.

The Mount of Beatitudes is where Jesus gave the Sermon on the Mount, and where he fed the multitude with a few loaves of bread and some fishes. Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount and also preached on the Beatitudes. Looking out over the Sea of Galllee, it is easy to imagine Jesus preaching to the masses. The church dates from the 1930s, it was paid for by Italy's Fascist government. While the architect is well-known, the church is not particularly distinguished, although it is credited with several miracles. By the way, the church grounds are meticulously maintained.

Are there any transportation options to get here from Haifa without having to rent a car?

I am not sure. I was on a delegation trip with an organization and we had our own bus. I would imagine there is a bus to Tiberias or another city in the Galilee region close to the site from Haifa.

Hi. I would be visiting Israel in January 2018 and I would like to know if it is safe for a woman to climb alone the Mount of Beatitudes from Tabgha. Thanks.

Hi,
Israel is usually super-safe. Just consider that January can be cold, especially in the north. The distance you intend to cover is quite short and there are plenty of people doing same. So eventually you do not feel safe enough when in Tabgha, then follow a larger group. In my opinion the experience of Holy Land is so intense that should be shared.
Bye!

Do you know how to reserve one of the private outdoor areas there? I have not yet found anything online. We have a group of 25 going soon. Also, I heard that there are places where your group could sit on the hillside and the pastor could stand further down as Jesus did to speak. Is there a favorite place to recommend overlooking the sea?

Hi !
On the hill there are several places you can have a private prayer or talk in the open . I am not sure it has to be reserved.
The place is administered by the Franciscan missionary sisters.
Open hours 0800-1145 , 1430-1600 .
If you wish you can call them at

My wife and I will be visiting Israel 5th - 19th October staying in Jerusalem. We would like to stay at the Mount of Beatitudes for one or two nights. We know there are hostels in Tabgha and the mount but which one is recommended and do you know costs etc.?

Verad Hagalil is the closest B&B type accomodation. I sat on the deck of my cabin and overlooked Mount of the Beatitudes and the Sea of Galilee. Greatly enjoyed by morning meditation while sitting there and staring at the lovely view. I reviewed Verad Hagalil so you can see some detailed answers there. All the other places are not nearly as close. You will need a private car to stay at Verad Hagalil as no convenient public transportation serves the area.

Hello, Is the Mount of Beatitudes open on Yom Kippur - September 23, 2015? Do you open on Saturdays?
