Learn about Padre Junipero Serra's success in establishing the Spanish missions along California's coastline in the late 18th century. Carmel's mission is very well preserved and beautifully historic. Recommended for any visit to the Monterey Peninsula.

I have been looking forward to visiting this mission. It was the second one built after the one in San Diego. Unfortunately, I came here on Thanksgiving and everything was closed. I was able to look over the walls and take some great photos. I...More

The Mission of Saint Charles Borromeo was Junípero Serra's base. When I was in fourth grade, we studied how this Franciscan and a small band of friars went up the coast of California and established missions. Today he is a saint in the Catholic Church....More

The outside of the Mission, inside and throughout the gardens this is a wonderful sight to take your time to visit! Was there for a wedding and truly appreciated the experience. Make the time to visit whenever you are in the area!

Most informative history lesson in this well organized review of the Fr Juniper Serra’s contribution to the Mission expansion in California. Studying in a book does not compare with visiting the actual historical sight. A MUST VISIT WHILE IN CARMEL-BY-THE-SEA.

This is a small but interesting museum. The gardens are quite well done. The interiors of the church are beautiful. There is a fair amount of interesting exhibits. Worth a quick stop to see everything.

We really enjoyed our visit to the mission. There was a peaceful, quiet, beauty in the garden. I enjoyed the small building in the back which gave one the history of the "princess" a benefactor who gave her support to the mission. The history of...More

Call and ask 831-624-1271. If you see a tour bus in the parking lot, I would suggest come back at another time.
