This is a quick note to explain that when you make your reservations for this park, you will have a choice of parking and entering at one of two locations. The West Gate on Hwy 1 or the East Gate off of Rancho San Carlos road. Your first choice should be the Hwy 1 entrance. There, you park right next... More

The guide books and web page advertise a 1.5 mile (eat way) hike to Inspiration Point. What they didn't point us is that the parking lot is 1.5 miles from the entrance. So, your 3 mile hike just turned into a 6 mile hike. If you are OK with that, then it is a great hike on a well maintained... More

Trail is in great shape, Springtime beautiful, with lots of flora and fauna. A bit of an elevation increase and there are several rest spots. Overlooking Carmel by the Sea to Pebble Beach.

This 10,000+ acre nature preserve is in the middle of Carmel near the intersection of Highway 1 and Carmel Valley Road, but you would never know it unless someone told you about it. There are only 8(ish) permits available PER DAY from the Monterey Peninsula Regional Parks District. A permit can be requested between 2-30 days before you wish to... More

Palo Corona is a beautiful park for hiking up into the hills overlooking the mouth of the Carmel River. Once you climb up about 800 feet over about a mile trail or so, you have beautiful views of the sea, the coast and the residential/commercial/golfing area. There is very limited parking, so you need to get a permit to enter... More

This is a beautiful park with eventual views of the ocean once you are up high enough. You can access the park by calling or emailing the Parks District. They give you the gate key. There are cows wandering around which means no dogs are allowed. Most of the time you'll be the only people walking. Our favorite hike through... More

To see Palo Corona Regional Park, one must apply for a park permit to go hiking there. Once received, one can hike. The number of people who hike in this area are limited each day. (Note: One can find out more on their web site.) As such, it is a park one must plan ahead to see. We got a... More
