why is a nature preserve right next to a golf course? and why is there a golf course there. Worst you have to pay 6 dollars to park. County should not be charging to visit whats suppose to be for the people! DISSAPOINTED

We liked the nature center displays very much and it was neat to see a hawk up close. The walk to the river was not great - hardly any trees for shade, very dry, not very scenic. We saw a couple deer and birds.

We were leaving the park and noticed this building towards the exit, we had some free moments to spare so we pulled in to check it out. This place is actually really huge, tons of fun and interactive things for my kiddos. They were super impressed and so was I.

The Effie Yeaw Nature Center and preserve is right along the American River . The Nature Center is a welcoming collection of exhibits and living animals. The focus of the center is learning about all the native wild plants and animals that live right there in the nature area. There is a Native American demonstration of the people who lived here first. I There are numerous activities for everyone and guided walks to explore and learn right outside.
One of the most attractive aspects of this wild area is how the trails explore different natural environments. The wildness of the area is preserved thru the rules that allow for the animals and plants to live naturally. Visitors are directed to always stay on the paths, to be quiet and to not disturb any living thing. Come see the deer, turkeys, many
birds, animal tracks and observe the river and it’s delights.
Just remember this is not a picnic area, dogs are not allowed and respect for nature is expected
For anyone visiting Sacramento this is a hidden gem.

This nature center has programs for children and adults with enthusiastic docents. . One can also simply go walk the trails on your own through oak woodlands and along the American River . Many species of birds . We often see coyotes , deer, rabbits as well . Trails are well marked and maintained

We frequent Ancil Hoffman Park almost daily and walk the Effie Yeaw trails probably every other day - especially early morning and early evening when critters are more likely to be out and about. Always a treat!

A group of scouts and scouters of Troop 107 recently helped to remove an invasive species called the Himalayan Blackberry (Rubus armeniacus). The removal of this invasive plant was perfectly timed to provide space for native plants to gernimate and thrive. The group had a good experience at the center.

During the first week of this month I took my granddaughter for a visit here. She had so much fun! The visitors center is very kid friendly. She’s 5 and loved the hands on displays and the live animals as well. I’ve been visiting here for over 20years. It’s only gotten better over time. Even if you don’t have little ones to bring along, it’s definitely worth a visit!!

a favorite hangout of folks who will litter and destroy any semblance of nature, with no oversight presence of any park people or police, garbage in the river bank, nasty drivers and bicyclists with no patience for just plain day families to quietly enjoy the scenery, no support from local police or the off-duty patrols except to try and escort teens and vagrants out of the area...Nature? Good luck...
