This is such a wonderful place. Very peaceful, family oriented recreational lake. Having a boat/jet ski etc is very helpful but you could easily enjoy the lake and surrounding area without them. It cools down at night usually so it's not miserable. The water is...More

Stayed in Lake Almanor West. Fairly close to Chester the closest town around that has anything offer. Golf course is fine and in good shape - one nine with different tees to make an 18-hole course. Hiking/Biking trails abound in and around Lake Almanor. You...More

We took the 36 west out of Chester and then turned onto the 89 south. Plenty of pull in spots by the side of the lake where you can just sit and watch nature go by. We had the place to ourselves although apparently other...More

By going when things were closed and gated, there was not not much to see or do. I understand there are great places to eat and see. Just not at this time of year.

Lake Almanor is a hidden gem. Beautiful place to go hiking, camping, fishing, skiing, etc. Small towns with locally owned businesses from affordable to over priced depending on where you go. Very seasonal but even winter time is a great time to visit! Be sure...More

Wonderful mountain lake like Tahoe was 70 years ago with development that hasn't gone over the top. Accommodations are available but not plentiful. The scenery is great especially in winter. Water sports are popular in summer and cross country skiing popular in winter. Super scenic...More

Camped at Northshore Campground east of Chester two miles. Rustic campground with great views of the lake. Old utilities and hard to level in several sites. But we enjoyed it once we found sites we could level on. Had fires and watched the lake and...More

Lots of choices but I would recommend the Almanor Campground / Prattville Boat Ramp or Almanor Dam Boat Ramp. There is plenty of Shore line to find your perfect spot & parking available with bathrooms at both Boat ramps.
