The harbor is a great place to watch boats and stand up paddlers. It gets very crowded on weekends and sunny days. There are lots of tour companies that take people on whale watching tours from the harbor.

Took my teenager to this beach. It wasn't crowded on a Saturday afternoon, the sand was a beautiful mix of black and green and dark purple stones....lots to explore.

Great environment - lots of boats, pelicans and seals. We could hear them barking while in our hotel room.

It is wonderful to see the lifeguards and sheriff helicopter actively searching the waters for sharks, due to warmer ocean temperatures as of late. I coach at Doheny beach, adjacent the harbor, 2-3 days a week. Also paddle board in the harbor. But the excitement yesterday was amazing and the communication between the helo and surfers/paddlers was outstanding! Very specific... More

Dana Point Harbor is one of the best areas along Southern Orange County's coastline for many activities. My favorite is walking the Harbor for exercise and viewing a great variety of boats and well kept Harbor area for picnicing, exploring the next neighbor Ocean Institute for learning about the ocean.

Dana Point Harbor is a great place to relax with a coffee or meal. There are plenty of nice walks around the harbor areas including the Ocean Institute and the island. There are some restaurants in the area as well. All in all, a very relaxing place to enjoy the outdoors and sea air.

Take a few minutes to drive up to the top of the bluffs south of the Harbor (near the Institute) and walk on the path to the viewing area. You will be rewarded with great views of the Harbor and possibly catch a glimpse of several species of endangered birds and other animals. You will also catch a great breeze... More

Fun to stroll the docks. Watch the boats. Nice benches to sit. Cute shops. Ice cream, coffee and restaurants. Close a little early tho. Went down for ice cream after dinner at hotel and it was closed by 8.

When we want a close easy launch we go to Dana Point. When we want to avoid the crowds yet smell the salty air, we go to Dana Point. When we want a secluded spot for a weekend tryst, we go to Dana Point.
