The Catalina Express is a smooth ride over to Catalina island. We did it for my birthday and they treat you very well.

The smoothest ride is from Long Beach. I live in Dana Point and although it takes an hour to drive to LB you get a bigger boat and one hour on the water vs 2 hrs from Dana Point. The DP boat is smaller and...More

We stayed in Dana Point overnight after a visit to Disney in order to position ourselves for the morning ferry for a two-day visit to Santa Catalina Island. Our travel was mid-week on the first week of December, so the ship was far from full...More

I must start off by saying that a trip to Avalon was my husband's idea, not mine. I saw there wasn't much of interest in Avalon, but he insisted on making the trip because I'd decided on all the sites to see for this trip...More

The boat itself was roomy inside and outside. There was a minimal service bar for breakfast, coffee, and juice. Not sure if there was alcohol, but I doubt it. The crew was very re-assuring to the crowd and thoughtfully went through the safety measures needed...More

The Catalina Express is a most beautiful ride over to Avalon...and then the pods of dolphins showed up! How thrilling to see this amazing sight. Our Captain spotted them first and shared the info so all passengers could see the dolphins in action...awesome!

Amazing service, really take care of people whom ride with them. If I could give more stars I would highly recommended to everyone. People whom work at the Dana Warf are some of the nicest people I have ever meet best experience.

The distance is about 41 miles, and takes an hour on the Catalina Express at Dana Point. There are a couple of other places where the Express leaves from, but that would add to the timing and distance of the trip. Still... More

Which Catalina Express are you taking? Parking is convenient from Dana Point but limited, San Pedro and Long Beach both have parking and probably about that price
