Very historical/

Lots of history at the mission. Very interesting place to teach kids about Alta California History. Very Important to share about the Native Peoples and culture too.

This is a small mission, which I proported to be the oldest in the area. The bell tower is separated from the church, not a common construction in Missions. We observed the bells, strolled through the aged cemetery and then entered the church. It was long and darkened. Definitely a step back into the past.

We have visited almost all of the California missions, and this was the most underwhelming.... The church and cemetery were open, but there was no one else around. It's an OK spot to stop for 15 minutes if you're driving by, but (unlike the other missions) it isn't worth a side trip.

This is a good place to learn about one of the early California missions. It's a nice and quiet place to visit and to imagine what life must have been like a couple of hundred years ago in the Golden State.

No entry fee. Parking is easy. Very small chapel. No one was there at the time we came. The gift shop was closed because it's only open Wednesday through Saturday. We went to the chapel at San Juan Capistrano, it is so much nicer. They have audio self-guided tours.

The larger missions get all the attention, but this mission is not to be missed. It's not too far from the Pala Casino.

Mass is offered every morning and the mission remains open throughout the day. There is sense of strife and hardship along with peace and tremendous love. The simplicity of this humble church reveals its richness in the beauty of the art painted along its walls.

We visited Mission San Antonio de Pala. It was founded in June 13, 1816. It is both a historic mission and an active school and congregation today. One can take tours of the mission. There is also things to see outside the mission such as the burial ground where Native Americans converts to Catholicism, as well as other pioneers. There... More
