It is a long drive up, but worth it. Great Views, different bio-zones, fun!. Great trees at the top!!! The Observatory is a 20th Century Wonder...the peak of industrial technology post WWII that still is a marvel today. Must See!

I've been taking friends and visitors to the park and Observatory for 30 years. It is always beautiful and the little hike area is perfect for "non-hikers". I love learning about our solar system in the museum too. You can do a more strenuous hike if you want also, but if you have younger kids, this is a great area... More

This is a cute little place to visit in Kit Carson Park. The mosaics are bright and beautiful. This would be a fun place for children to run around in. The circle is in an area where you can hike and it was a good little place to visit. Check the hours before going. Te circle is only open a... More

Such a beautiful place! Beautiful trees, plants, and trails! They have picnic areas and bathrooms spread about the park. There is a small fee for parking (I believe it was $10 or something?) but it's so worth it! We were there for hours.

I must have made it just after the recently paved road was opened--judging by the recent reviews. I caught the most beautiful sunset I have seen in a long time! This was accomplished at the fire lookout tower, and thanks to the park forestry interpreter. The Silvercreek picnic area is nice and with plenty of room for lots of people.... More

We purposefully drove to Palomar Mountain State Park to see the scenic overlook loop that was advertised. We were in CA for a short visit and had only one day to pick a place to go and hike/photograph. We get there and that road has been recently paved and has no access. Too bad the state parks department doesn't keep... More

We were in the area visiting from Texas and had a day where we could go see some sights. I found Palomar Mountain State Park online and it looked very interesting, especially the Boucher Hill Fire Lookout. I dabble at photography and this looked like a great location. We paid our $10 and entered the park only to be greeted... More

The drive to the observatory is long and winding. Bring a jacket as it is windy but heard that it danger warm during the summer. Checked in at the museum and gift shop before walking 100 yards to the observatory. There are 30 steps to the telescope to the glass atrium. It is a massive unit but was difficult to... More
