I adore this store, the smell still takes me back to my childhood! Every time I go home for a family visit, this store is a must see! I have loved this mercantile since I was a kid, and boy has it changed over time and yet it retains the same charm. So may cool items in there, this last... More

I always take visitors to this store - must not miss it. They have so many unusual items and I never go there without buying something even if candy is the only thing I buy. They have some unusual and delicious old fashioned candy items there. The staff is friendly and helpful.

This Mercantile store is a throwback to earlier times. The owner carries a little bit of everything she was very friendly and helpful.

A stroll around this store was a treat of old fashioned variety. We didn’t really need anything but did buy a tin of Altoids Curiously Strong Mints. The amusement stayed with us along our road trip for as long as the tin of mints lasted. They were the least strong mints I have ever tasted but rendered pleasure in a... More

A trip to Victorian Ferndale would not be complete without a visit to the Mercantile. check out the mini- museum upstairs, check out the antiques scattered throughout the store, and treat yourself to some horehound candies and dirt soda. The only thing is, there is an odd smell- can't place it, if it's from the candies, or some kind of... More

If you are looking for interesting items this is the place to shop. Some of the candy brands date back at least 50 years. Interesting local items, jewelry, food items and trinkets. The upstairs has museum like displays of Victorian era stores. I could spend all day looking at the items in the store. the staff is helpful and attentive.

Antiques, vintage, new items and fun old brands of candy. Two story building filled with unique items. Upstairs is a mini museum of Victorian times. Definitely a stop back in time.

This is a not to be missed shop. We worried that when the business was sold it would not be the same. But to our surprise it still is one of the rare finds in California.

I love this neat little place - reminds me of when I was a kid. Old fashioned country store with lots of candies, goodies, foods, kitchen items, and reasonably priced jewelry. Tons of hats and yes, vintage furniture on second floor. The store is in a cool old wooden building. Cozy gas stove going and all the different smells -... More

My wife wanted to give them 5 stars. I was thinking of 4 stars. She convinced me because the only thing I like to do at Golden Gait is check out the candy and hats. She reminded me that they also carry antique furniture (upstairs), specialty/antique dishes, jewelry and preserves as well as a myriad other things. The two ladies... More
