Good Hiking at Lake Sonoma

The trails around the lake are great for hikes of all difficulties. There are some short loops that are pretty easy and then there are longer ones that can take several hours. To enjoy the lake without a boat you have to hike down one of the trails to get to the water's edge. There is no place to drive... More

We were staying at the Russian RV Campground and made a half-day trip to hike in the Rock Pile area at Lake Sonoma before venturing back to Cloverdale for a late lunch. Various levels offered for the beginning to more advanced hiker. We parked at the Grey Pine lot and only ran into one couple on the hike. Definitely worth... More

A lovely hike today--we took No Name trail. The lake view was so peaceful. Birds soaring. Before the hike we went to the fish hatchery. Hint: go on Thursdays when they extract eggs from fish.

We first discovered Lake Sonoma as a great place for boat camping (with some primitive campsites around the lake accessible only by boat) in the early 1990s. After years of boat camping outings there, we moved farther away and stopped going there. We visited again during a recent trip to Sonoma County (without boat) and were pleased to find it... More

Always wanted to see Lake Sonoma on trips to wine country but didn't want to drive up. It's definitely worth the trip. Beautiful view and very peaceful. Great place to sit in shade on a hot, sunny day. Also have few picnic tables to enjoy your snack.

Can be challenging for a workout if that's what you're looking for - or just take it slower. Bring water - it's hot and dry!

Nice drive thru many wineries to the top to view the lake. Parking there was free and there were picnic tables. We could see the marina below with many boats.

This August we took a break from touring wineries and picked up a picnic lunch, heading to Lake Sonoma. After a beautiful drive we ended up by their marina with several picnic benches available as it was a weekday. Our lunch consisted of one sandwich each and bottled water. We ended up sitting at 3 different tables only to be... More

We were told by a patron at KINsmoke to take the drive. It has a beautiful look out with a restroom, if you need it. We drove down to the marina/beach, but they wanted $10 to park and we weren't staying, so we passed. Didn't even know there was a Lake Sonoma!!
