Don't miss the wheels on the other side of the road from the parking lot. One still standing - but maybe not for long. One collapsed under its own weight.

Tailing wheels are great to learn more about gold history. This wheel has added more info and structure to make it worth the stop.

Great stop on a trip through the gold country. It will take an hour at the most to see the entire exhibit. Suitable for families with small children and aging adults. Pretty amazing sight when you consider the time period and the engineering and skill required to put this all together.

The size of the enclosed wheel (Wheel #4) gives you a glimpse of the size of the operation here. If this was one of four wheels the complex was enormous. Make sure you go to the top of the hill and see the dam for the tailing pond and read about how much moved through here on a daily basis.

Only a short amount of time and a short walk are needed to experience these 60-foot high wheels (used to remove debris from the mine.) I saw them when I was 6 years old, and I was equally impressed at age 63 by the engineering feat. One is repaired on one side of the road and the other across the... More

An easy hike to see the historic Kennedy Tailing Wheels. I have long admired pictures of these wheels, but, never actually gone there. It is a short hike from the parking lot. The wheels are in various stages of decay/rehabilitation, which I found enjoyable. The history of the wheels is clearly laid out at the kiosk. It was a fun... More

One of the wheels is restored while the others are in various states of disrepair. They are amazing remnants from an important part of the gold mining process from the Kennedy mine.

We spent about 20 minutes at the Park. It is a short up hill walk to the first tailing wheel which is partially intact in place. Then another short walk up hill to see a fully restored tailing wheel housed to preserve it. The history was interesting. There is ample free parking, a dog park and restrooms. It is a... More

Road directions. Driving northeast-bound on highway 88 (though in fact right here in Jackson: driving south) you probably will not notice passing the Jackson Post Office (on your left), but very soon after you pass a Shell gasoline station (on your left), and then (for a highway:) a rare lot of traffic lights. Turn left, and left again on North... More
