During a weekend visit to the Sonoma coast from Philadelphia, (it seems the only sunny days in February) we spent an afternoon hiking in Salt Point State Park. The views were spectacular. We visited a couple different trail heads as well as the main visitors center which was closed for either the winter or Sunday. The trails near the main... More

This is our favorite walk. If you walk along the ocean from the fire road around and back, it will take about an hour. Gerstle Cove is about half way. Park on right of Hwy 1, a wide shoulder past Gerstle Cove.

This was one of the first places we stopped on a road trip from San Fran up the coast to Oregon. It was lovely. We stayed at the campgrounds here, which were sparsely populated that night, very quiet, and very well kept with regular toilets. The hike from the main road, across the coast line, was maybe only a mile,... More

We happened upon the park on an incredible day. No wind with high swells. The spray was shooting high. Just gorgeous sights. The rock formations are pretty on their own. Saw several seals.

A spectacular coast to walk and look out at the Pacific Ocean. The waves crashing on the rocks were mesmerizing! Bundle up when it's windy, but well worth it. The trails are in great condition. Go!!

Salt Point State park is beautiful. I saw many sea lions and deer. There were beautiful sunsets in the evening. I stayed at the state park campground which was clean and comfortable. Campsites were spread apart nicely. Many hiking options including a great hike along the coast. So many coves and tide pools. I would definitely return to this area.

The beach trail is simply incredible! We saw seals, whales and various types of birds. The walk is easy - or difficult depending how many rocks you want to climb :) Just beautiful, go and check it out.

We hiked both along the coast and up in the woods as part of a loop suggested by a park ranger. Both trails were worth the time. Criticism: What keeps it from being five stars is there is no sign on the highway indicating where the visitor's center is. There are also very few trail markings.

We had a great time car camping here with two other families. There is a good variety of sites that are large and fairly private, and the setting is gorgeous with pine trees everywhere. We saw maybe one honeybee. No yellow jackets, no squirrels or raccoons trying to get into our food. That in itself was great. There are beautiful... More
