The Kern Valley Museum is an excellent repository of local history. Exhibits include the expected: western settlement, mining, aartifacts, wagons and carriages, etc; also the unexpected, particularly about a thriving movie industry back in the black-and-white days. The docents are highly knowledgeable, and happy to tell you about what you're looking at and answer questions. The museum sometimes has special... More

They did a beautiful job at displaying items in each room of the museum. The collection of they have in back of the horse drawn carriages and the room of how the living quarters were back in the day. It's a must see!!! Biggest collection I've seen.

I love museums, and this one is GREAT-----mostly because it's mainly confined to the Kern River Valley history. There's a whole room devoted to the movie industry and all the movies that have been shot locally. Many of the old TV westerns were done in the area. There's a lot devoted to local Native Americans with lots of artifacts. Also,... More

The Kern Valley is run by the local Historic Society. It's FREE and several times a year there are special activities (like during Whiskey Flat Days Festival!) that are just fun!
