Nice, but expencive

Nothing more to add: although ticket to city walls opens door to all museums, for us it wasn't that tempting.

Quite expensive to go up, and it only applies once, so you can't go back up again. Apart from the small buildings and such at the entrance to the wall, there is not much else, apart from small clay designs in each parapet at a turn in the wall. There are no barriers on the side to protect you from... More

This was a highlight of our visit to Pingyao. We timed our visit to coincide with the sunset and walked from the North Gate around to the West Gate. You couldn't walk east when we were there. You get a great perspective of the ancient city and a terrific view down the East West street. The wall is included in... More

The ancient city wall is the first attraction you will go after getting your 1-day pass from the ticket office just outside the ancient city wall. Go up and stroll a bit, take in the atmosphere, look out from the ramparts.

Arguably the best way to see Pingyao - from above! Worth the RMB 130 pp. You can peek into many courtyards still inhabited by the local population, some restored, some not.

Beautiful preserved city wall; be careful of very low walls on the inside occasionally, especially with kids ... manageable size to spend a few hours circling the city.

Its just a big wall that is getting renovated for the most parts. So you couldnt walk/bike a round on it. Beside that you need to have the 3day pingyao ticket of 130 yuan to get up there. As I do not care a lot for museums, its a pity I would have to pay so much money to get... More

The encircled wall which resembles a shape of tortoise, is 4 miles/6 kilometers long, 40 ft/12 meters tall; the top varies from 10 to 20 ft/3 to 6 meters wide. The wall is built with bricks and stones.

Extremely impressive walls and better than those of Xi'an. Beautiful both day and night. Amazingly intact given the age of the structure.
