You get to spend a couple of hours on a scenic river with a few very gentle rapids from Kameoka (easily reachable by JR train) to Arashiyama where there's lots of stuff to see and do (Monkey park, Tenryuji temple and Bamboo forest). An enjoyable (if a bit expensive 4100 yen) excursion.

Try the historical way to reach Sagano by river Beautiful scenery across. bridges, forests, monkeys... Japanese speaking staffs only but enough attractions along the 90 mins trip to make the trip memorable

This boat trip provided an excellent break from Shrines and Temples - it is a great way to arrive in Arashihama (note: there is a fantastic café with great Italian style take away coffee not far from the disembarkation spot) The valley was beautiful and it was fun to ride in the traditional boats - we even spotted some wild... This boat ride is interesting and I would have given 5 stars if there is translation rather than all introduction in Japanese. It is better to keep warm as it can get very cold at times.

We were there in March. It was cold. The website said that the boats are heated. They were not. It was so extremely cold! We almost didn't do this, but since it was supposed to be heated, we went for it. Also, they packed people onto the boats. The website says that people sit on mats. Nope nope nope. We... More

We sat on the front row and it was a fun ride. They provided us a large plastic cover because at some points, water splashed into the boat and onto the passengers sitting in front. We got water on our faces and hair but we did not mind a bit. There were 3 staff operating the boat. One of them... More

The boats are timed to leave on the hour from Kameoka, but it is better to get there about half a hour before. You fill in a quick form and swap it for a ticket when you pay, and then they call your name and number in English when it's your turn for the boat. Some people said the first... More

A fun and easy white water ride down to Arashiyama with very vibrant Japanese boat men giving commentary in Japanese. Not a real white water experience but enough to make a splashly ride. Beautiful river views of the cherry blossoms and lots of wildlife from a monkey, heron, cormorans, turtles and more. There is a snack boat that pulls aside... More

Would recommend. Even though the cherry blossom wasn't out yet the ride still had some beautiful scenery. Can imagine it will be spectacular with the Sakura in full bloom or in the autumn. Mild rapids added an occasional thrill and the boat men were lively and chatty even though we couldn't understand it still added to the fun. A novel... More

For each person is JPY 4100, I will suggest everyone to buy the shuttle bus ticket (which will take you from train station (亀岡駅) to boat station). It is very nice experience, even there was no cherry flower when I took the boat, but the view was also very good and beautiful. The staffs were very nice and they explained... More
