The views here are nothing to write home about, but the walk is paved and good for people who need a less rigorous walk. The other issue is that you don't really see very much of the water when you are on the walk. There are other great hikes in Lafayette where you can see much more exciting views (ie... More

If you are looking for a picturesque nature walk in a lovely semi-rural suburb east of San Francisco and just east of Berkeley;this is it. Choose between a 2.8 mile round trip on a meandering paved path, mostly flat but with a few small upgrades around the lake surrounded by Monterrey pines,Redwoods, and Valley and Live Oak studded hills and... The one time, I tried to picnic at the reservoir, there were yellow jackets all over the place, completely ruining the lunch.

I've been going to the reservoir since I was a kid. My parents loved to fish and I loved to catch frogs and crawdads! Now all these years later I meet my friends there and hike around the paved trail to get some exercise. And if we're feeling super energetic we'll hike the rim trail. Either way its a wonderful,... A stunningly beautiful place for a short or long walk or a challenging hike; (The Lakeside Nature Trail (paved, 2.7 miles) and the Rim Trail (unpaved, 4.7 miles) a place to picnic and hang out with family and friends; a place to rent canoes or paddleboats or kayaks for a water and sky filled perspective. Lots of wildlife, especially great... More

Great exercise, lovely views and opportunity for good and lively conversation. The rim trail is more exciting and challenging but one of my walkers is 83 and often needs to shorten his adventure to just part of this walk.

It is a nice peaceful environment. Clean and safe for the most part. I just wish that the parking was free and also more of it.

The rez, as locals call it, is a perfect place for a long walk, picnic, kid adventure, family gathering, etc. Lots of open space, kids playground, mile + trail around the water, and places to fish as well...

If you only walk around the paved loop, it's a great walk. But there are lots of off shoot hiking you can do for more taxing exercise. I plan to go back during warm weather to rent the paddle boat with my granddaughter.
