I went 2 times, on weekend and on a week day. Both super crowded, but the beach is good to chill, talk, tan a little.

There's a lot to do, rides, carnival games, all different kinds of great street performers in every corner of the pier. You can go fishing or hang out at the beach. Just be prepared for the big crowds especially on a nice sunny weekend. Getting...More

While not a lot to do on the pier, it is a classic that shouldn't be missed if you are nearby. The sea water is not the cleanest compared to the areas just north like Malibu. The beaches are very accessible and clean. The small...More

Was able to get out here before sunset and take amazing photos with sunset in the background. Not way too crowded either or loud, plus is the location of the ice cream shop nearby!

We went close to dinner time and the Pier was crowded. There are restaurants on the pier, carnival rides, people fishing, street performers and small souvenir shops. We stayed to see it all lit up at night. Very cool!

Santa Monica is a coastal town that maintains a
balance as a tourist destination and as an area with a
thriving local culture. On the beach, bikers,
roller-bladers, runners and walkers move along the
famed bike path enjoying the beautiful Los Angeles
weather. The solar-powered Ferris wheel at the Santa
Monica pier spins high above the water, while park
revelers scream with delight riding the roller

Depends a great deal on what time of day that you are trying to get there! If you are driving out of LA when work is letting out it will take you a lot longer, so plan to leave LA before 3:30 or so for best time.
