My sons took me on a "Day in Venice" excursion which included a nice walk along the canals. I would highly recommend a walk along the canals if you want to get a feel for how these folks in Venice live and enjoy the great weather and scenery. Also walk along Abbott Kinney and shop at the various unique boutiques... More

The canals are not large or a major tourist draw, but instead are a pretty and sometimes whimsical glance at a unique slice of life in So. Cal. You stroll along walks and bridges that abut the backyards of homes along the canal. It was nice to get away from the crowds and tour this area.

Well, if this "Venice" is so charming and romantic, I'd definitely like to visit the real Venice :) This area is not that big, so it's not worth coming here only for this place. But I advice you to spend here 30 mins to take great pics and enjoy beautiful cozy houses.

We must have visited during high tide on Sunday, January 29th as we did not notice any bad smells. We’re from Canada and I found walking along the canals enchanting. Every house is unique. Beautiful and so quiet early morning with a few other people jogging or walking their dogs. We even saw a policeman on a bike go by.... More

Very cool, the history of Venice and the charm of the walk ways. My son brought me here and I had no idea how involved it really is. Houses are unique and interesting. The water doesn't look the greatest and area's are run down. But, overall it's worth a walk and an interesting piece of California History

It's just a neighborhood with the typical canals, but don't be fooled, it has nothing to do with Venice (the city in Italy) It's a tourist trap...

A great way to travel around, with great historical architectural buildings surrounding. Unavoidable for falling in love with Venice once you've visited.

Lived most of my life on the west side and only recently did we discover this hidden gem. Fantastic walk if you pick just the right day, not too hot or cold. Loved it.

It is a lovely walk through the canals where you get to see the back yards of the interesting homes of Venice. The walking bridges offer ideal photo stops. Great neighborhood to explore.

Staying in Venice

Neighbourhood Profile
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.
