Great park just a 20 minutes outside of los gatos/Saratoga. Take the saratoga gap trail to get sweeping vistas of the santa cruz mountains. Traveling just a few miles is all that is required. The trails are not flat and do have some drop offs. Go early on the weekends. Worth a visit.

Castle Rock state park has 2 easy 2 moderate and 2 strenuous trails. We took the moderate one saratoga gap trail till camping grounds and on the way saw goat rock. It was a good hike for 2-3 hours in total. Parking costs 8 dollars . Hike is pretty good and it is a good place for people who have... More

We went to this park for the first time this week. It was overall a great park, with lots of scrambling over rocks, if you like that sort of thing. Castle Rock itself is NOT to be missed -- the rock formations inside the caves are really amazing. I am mostly writing this review to provide some information that I... More

Great place to visit, only about 30 min away from the city. nice, leasure drive on highway 9 short 1 mile easy hike to Castle Rock, and another 1.5mile to the waterfall. What is unusual about this waterfall is you look at from the top, not from the bottom. Great if you visit right after rain, to see creeks and... More

Wanted to take a hike after a long time out of action and decided to try the Saratoga Gap Trail. It was a bit ambitious for someone seriously out of shape but very enjoyable. Excellent views and conveniently located for stressed out workers looking to relax.

This was a mostly shaded ramble, figure eight hike. Very enjoyable. The rock formations were so interesting and fun to climb around on.

Lots of great camping sites. We took the saratoga trail there and the ridge view back. Get to the parking lot early. The rangers are really nice, so are the other campers/hikers. Careful lots of bees and mosquitos. All around great spot for a weekend trip.

Hiking at Castle Rock was a great experience. The park opens from 6 AM to sunset, and parking costs $8 if you park inside the area (note: there are limited parking spaces). However, if you arrive there early (at around 7:30 AM), you will be able to park alongside the highway, which is free and fills up quickly. The hiking... More
