With the map and signs we never made it to the Staircase. Why? We started from the parking lot on ocean side of highway. The Staircase was on the east side so we never found trail leading under highway. Anyway, the walk out and along...More

The Eco Staircase hike (5 miles roundtrip) is not to be missed. Yes, the trail is unmarked in places, which serendipitously leads you to even more magical spots. A mostly level, easy hike, but with a few parcours along the way to keep things interesting.

The trail is 2.5 miles in & the same out for a total of 5 miles. I starts on the cliffs overlooking the ocean, goes through various forests & meadows until you end in a pygmy forest. Along the way are markers that correspond to...More

Great walk with geology lesson at the start; grassy fields that lead to the cliffs overlooking the rocky coastline

Lovely little secluded coves, nice, clean beaches with moderate access. Not particularly good for beachcombing, other than small driftwood pieces. Enjoy the wildflowers in the cliff sides and bluffs Check out the 2.5 mile (loop?) around the Pygmy Pine Forest and the .08 mi trail...More

We decided to spent a half day here and do the Eco Staircase hike (5 miles roundtrip) after reading about it on the website. Pros: it was gorgeous and was really cool to walk up through the various types of forests on each terrace. It...More

Not many places along the northern california coastline offer warm water. This cove is very shallow and calm and we could wade and walk out far into the ocean on the warm day we were there. Gorgeous sand was warm and comfy to lie on....More

This park offers two things to do - hike or head to the beach. We headed to the beach and when you first get to the top of the hill and look down at the beach it's breath taking. The beach is nice and sandy...More

We went both nights we were in Mendocino to watch the sunset. It is so beautiful you don't want to talk, but simply savor the beauty in peaceful silence

It's a small beach but don't let that stop you. It's very beautiful and well worth the walk down the stairs. You can either swim, chase the waves or explore the rocks and tide pools on the left.

Agree with drheathr, trail is mostly level and walking speed after the beginning steep decline. However trail map says that it is 5 miles long one way and there is no alternate return route, just one way in and one way out... More

I was at the park for a wedding. We used the trail down to the beach. Some of the steps are irregular in height and position, but it is an easy trail. If a bride can do it in her gown and guests ranging from 6 months into... More
