Lets be real, there is not a ton to do in Merced. I found myself there for a day and was pleasantly surprised by this park. There is a 5 mile look you can drive with three small hikes along the way. Even though the...More

We needed to kill a few hours in the Merced area, and this came up highly rated on Trip Advisor. We enjoyed our visit. Be aware that there's not much there - no visitor center, a couple of picnic tables and pit toilets. There was...More

Stopped here while on our way to Merced. The five-mile auto loop is great for birders. Drive carefully as rabbits are everywhere.

In the appropriate season and time of day, Merced NWR is full of birds. The driving loops are well done and the refuge headquarters is quite interesting. We plane to return in the spring.

It was THE BEST sunset. I want to go again and again. Merced's hidden treasure. It's only 8 miles outside of town. You venture down a road that has wide open spaces of rangeland, right when you think you've gone too far you'll reach it....More

If you just to get out of the house on a winter day, this is the perfect place for a run or a walk, and time to talk with whoever you're with. Complete quiet . You are alone. Just go .

This is a great trip for a nature walk. The center offers tours of the wildlife park. It was fun for a field trip at school as well.
