On 17 Mile Drive there are stops where you can get out and the shore is right there. Most places have handicap parking so bring your parking card

Many houses are obscured by the terrain and plants , trees, bushes and fences.

Yes, I believe the closest place to rent bikes is at Lovers Point Park (Adventures by the Sea). Also, bikes can ride the road for free!
