A few well maintained trails lead off of the small visitor center. Could easily spend a few hours walking around, lots of great places to spot wildlife.

I took the train from San Jose to Santa Barbara. As part of the train trip, one gets to see the Elkhorn Slough area. I saw lots of birds. One can also watch for sea animals in the area such as sea lions.

An amazing preserved area of freshwater and saltwater confluence holding the native animals who live and visit it. Walk the path from the State park and see, when lucky, seals, otters, sea lions, pelicans, deer and many bird species. Take a kayak from Moss’s landing...More

We had planned to kayak up the slough but opted to do the Elkhorn Slough Safari instead. Either way you'll see an incredible amount of wildlife. We would recommend the safari because a naturalist goes along and describes everything you see. On the day we...More

The best spot is just off the highway by Moss Landing. The Slough is more suited for walking on a boardwalk and looking for small marsh birds. There will be sea otters, seals and numerous shorebirds around Moss Landing.
