The wedge is a dangerous spot. When large waves are breaking they can exceed 20 feet, in height and break in as little as 2 feet of water. How? The waves sort of double (or more) in size because of the very nearby jetty. The...More

the drive to the wedge takes you past iconic Newport Beach experiences and amazing houses, cottages, and sandy beaches. Never get bored hanging out at the wedge...I watch, my son and husband used to surf there. gorgeous scenery...no bathroom facilities though

The Wedge is a must see if you are in Newport Beach. Very cool watching the body boarders and surfers catch the huge waves. There isn't a parking lot so be prepared to drive around the neighborhood looking for a parking spot.

This is the place to go if you want to surf or watch surfers. The waves are huge and a fun place to enjoy the surf.

Absolutely fun! Guards were friendly and gave great advice to keep us safe. Waves were huge to us Texans.

Not to be missed this is a great place to enjoy the waves. It also has amazing views, especially on good days.. This is the one place every kid in Newport remembers growing up..

Where the ocean converges on the shore and the jetty it creates a very unique surf break. I don't surf but it was fun to watch those that did.

The Wedge in Newport is a very relaxed location. The area along the shore is not as busy as other beach locations. There aren't any public restrooms. This area has a jetty that a lot of body boarders and surfers enjoy. The parking is limited...More

In 1939 a Hurricane came to Newport Beach and created waves of some 12 to 14 feet coming directly up the harbor channel. Certainly there was not much built in the area at that time, but thinking of this makes me shudder at what would...More

The wedge is a great spot to watch world-class body surfers (and some not so world class). But the environment is prime for injuries and there are victims of Mother Nature every year. That doesn’t stop the diehards from making the pilgrimage. Me? I’ll just...More
