A walk around Lake Merritt is worth every minute. The lake offers up many interesting waterfowl including pelicans. At night the lights surrounding the lake are beautiful. There are areas to sit and enjoy the scenery or have a snack.

We very much enjoyed the lakeside, the drum circle and the families picnicking around the lake. Water birds seemed healthy and the water was relatively clear. Park is well used and surrounded by shops and restaurants. A nice place to spend an afternoon.

Oakland is knw for its stunning yet romantic sun sets and this particular evening was no exception. It was great as the clear sky's enabled is to see as,far as the golden gate bridge! Its a must see on any hot August summer night!

Great walking trail. Also good for biking, skating, running. A little crowded on weekends. Not a lot of space for picnics.

Lake Merritt is not a swimming lake. It is a brackish lake, mostly salt water with a little fresh water coming in from some seasonal streams. I have never seen a swimmer in the lake. On the other hand it is great for... More
