The nature center itself has surprisingly quite a lot of interesting animals and fossils to look at. They have a microscope to interact with and view bird feather, rocks and shells. Outside is a very nice trail that’s about 1/4 mile. There is a fun nature scavenger hunt found inside the nature center that you can use while out on the trail. Super fun for the kids! The trail was at parts a little bit of a tight squeeze if you have strollers but can still be accomplished.

Blink and you'll miss the small sign and obscure entrance, but go back and visit the Buena Vista Audubon Center. Go early in the morning for the best bird-watching, and walk the nature trail ready to take pictures. Kids' activities in the summer, too!

For the second time in almost 3 years I passed by and stopped at this nature centre. The first time I had a nice conversation with the volunteer. This time, traveling by bike again, I had an ugly encounter with the old male hag who was manning the center. I had parked my loaded touring bike against the wall of the building, as I had been welcomed to do previously. After I went in, I started walking around and the guy asked me if it was my bike outside. When I replied yes, he made a gruff statement about thinking how it belonged to some homeless person (he was clearly insulting the homeless). I don't know why he would have thought that - the area gets plenty of touring cyclists. He then mumbled something else as I walked around the exhibits. It was EXTREMELY evident that he was miserable working there. Whoever hired him never should have. He has no personality to be around others.

We visited the wonderful exhibit and friendly docent at the Audubon Center today. I decided to take a walk on the trail on my own while my husband sat in the car. Wish I had been put on notice by the docent that homeless people on bikes regularly camp out under trees along the trail, I never would have walked back there alone. Once I saw the fellow camped out, I didn’t feel safe and immediately returned to our car. I called later to report this to the docent and he said that it is a common occurrence and that the police go through there asking them to clear out a couple times a day. If you are walking alone, better to walk the trail after a police visit. Check with the docent.

The center was closed so we walked around what we could of the nature trail. Not as much to see as I was expecting. Very swampy and not a lot of birds - probably just the time of year. A very nice native grass (with labels) area.

Very nice display of animals--stuffed and information. The trail was not recommended due to recent rain. I appreciated knowing that the trail was muddy and not recommended at the time we stopped.
