We took the three hour tour with our US Marine son his girlfriend and our other 2 teenage sons. For about the same price as a trip to the zoo we got to do something unique. The boat was nice and the captain great. We saw several dolphins up close. Overall a memorable afternoon.

For years I have wanted to go sailing. We use skiffs in Alaska, but the thought of moving with the wind, not a motor, has always been enticing. So this year on a trip to Oceanside to visit our son and his wife, I looked into sailing adventures. Sailing Blue Water Charters by name said what I wanted to do. I called Captain David Mora and set a date for January 4th, 2020. When the day arrived, we four met the captain and climbed aboard “The Breath of an Angel”, received our safety briefing, and soon were heading out of the harbor on a blue sky Southern California day. When Captain Mora shut off the motor, the wind caught and held in the sails, and the boat floated over the surface truly like an angel’s breath, softly with delicate grace. It was like being a seagull lightly lifted by the waves, like being one with the ocean’s great heaving swells… I wanted to try steering. Captain Dave talked about feeling the wind on my face, about angling across the chop, about not getting too intent on ‘watching needles’. I loved feeling the craft respond, the speed picking up when I had the direction right for the breeze. Later as the boat ‘came about’, my husband spotted a gray whale, and for maybe twenty minutes we followed its track, watching as it sent spume into the air as it migrated purposefully, then lifted its mighty tail to go under for a time. It was the captain’s first whale of the new year, and he was as excited as we were… it was clear that sailing was his passion. He loves his boat, and his enthusiasm was contagious. My husband and I are thinking of perhaps taking sailing lessons; certainly of sailing again. A truly unforgettable day at sea.

My 15 year old daughter and I recently traveled to Oceanside from the east coast and a day sail was one of the things on my list. I found Captain Dave “Skully” and booked a four-hour charter sail. It was like going sailing with a friend. My daughter and I felt so at home and comfortable, the conversations were great, listening to Jimmy Buffett and enjoying the beautiful blue waters and the peacefulness of being out on the ocean. Captain Dave was so attentive to making sure we had everything we needed. My daughter sat right up on the bow and watched the dolphins play under her feet. I am no stranger to sailing and boating, and felt extremely comfortable with Captain Dave’s seamanship and boat handling capabilities. Hopefully we get a chance to visit the area again and go for another sail, and I encourage you to do the same if you’re in the Oceanside neighborhood...you won’t regret it!

My family chartered Breath of an Angel to celebrate my birthday. The sailboat was well equipped with modern navigational equipment and she was beautifully maintained. She had all the comforts you would need for an enjoyable sail. A seat on the bowsprit was the perfect spot to embrace the tranquility of being out in nature. Grey whales with their calfs and spinner dolphins graced us with their presence! Captain Skully and his first mate Boo, were incredibly informative, warm and gracious hosts attending to our every need. We look forward to sailing with them again in the near future. We would highly recommend Sailing Blue Water Charters to anyone who would enjoy a day at sea!
