Family friendly loop with rolling hills. Came here and did a ~5 mile loop on a Saturday. It’s a pretty popular trail even during covid. The trail is exposed so bring lots of water, or come earlier in the day. Leashed dogs are allowed. It’s an equestrian trail as well, so be mindful of the horse poop! It’s fine if you wear sneakers, although hiking boots wouldn’t hurt when you’re going downhill, as some of the parts are sandy.
The trail is pretty wide, and there’s plenty of options to take different directions if you’re inclined to explore. There is a sulphuric smell close to the lake, so that was the only unpleasant thing about the hike. Parking is $3 and you’ll pay at the machine. Bathrooms (both porta-potty and regular) are available at the entrance. There’s a lot spots available; it would be difficult to find street parking since the neighborhood posted signs indicate that permits are needed. Overall, it’s a good spot for people of all fitness levels.

When we arrived we saw a reservoir. It was so beautiful.
We found a place for hiking and we walked near the reservoir.
We saw yellow flowers.
There were cacti and ducks in the reservoir.
A must see!

Despite the fires in fall of 2017, this is still a wonderful park for hiking (and biking or equestrian activities). And now, after the rains this past winter, the park is greener and more lush than ever. And the reservoir is full of water. Peters Canyon Regional Park is easy to get to in the city of Orange, but once you go a few steps on the trails, you feel a million miles away. There are nice up and down hills, providing a great workout, but you can go as slow or as fast as you want and as far as you like, since the park goes all the way into Tustin. Lot's of birds because of the water, which makes for lovely sounds while hiking. Great views from the tops of the hills.

Awesome place to hike, run or mountain biking. Excellent views from the ridge trail. Lots of wild flowers right now.

I’m a local resident. After the fire, this place has seemed to have been cleaned up a little but not much more. I wish they would ask for a volunteer team to help plant and clean up the park. I definitely would love to help rehab this special space.

This park has very many steep hills that are great workout. There are two options; you can hike the steep hills or take the flatter trail. It's a great place for pets, and families. The only downside is is that there is limited parking. The parking lot is on the north side of the Park on Canyon View ave and you have to pay, but if you go to the south side of the park by the elementary school, its's Free! because you park on the street. DO NOT PARK on the right side of the street or you will get a ticket.

I ran one of my cross country races here. It's very sandy, dry, and hot. In fact, there are some areas closed due to recovering from fire last year. There are different trails to choose from depending on how you feel. You can hike some or walk some, and some are more hilly than others. It's also a place you can bring your dog with you. Bring lots of water and sunscreen because the area is not very shady, except for this one, big willow tree. Thus, visiting in the morning is better. Also, the canyon closes at 8:30 pm!

Small jewel of a semi wilderness park has had a hard time over the past few years. The reservoir ran bone dry during the big California drought, and much of the park was badly damaged in a wildfire in 2017. But no matter the condition, the park is heavily used for day hikes and for observing its natural changes.

Peters Canyon is a wilderness park in urban Orange County. While hiking the numerous trails you never feel like you have totally left the city as there are homes visible at many points throughout the trails. However this is still a relaxing place and a good choice if searching for a relatively easy one to two hour hike, depending on the trail you choose. If you park on the street by the South Entrance, parking is free and the south end of the park was not impacted by the recent fires. If you enter from the North Main Entrance some of the trails are currently closed due to the recent fires and parking is $3.00 per vehicle. Dogs, horses and mountain bikes are allowed on some of the trails. Also a good hiking choice if younger children will be with you.

Orange is my home town. I have walked, hiked and biked this area many times. By myself, with friends and with my son. The scenery is lovely and there is terrain options for everyone. There is a wildlife preserve area you can walk through as well. I highly recommend. Hopefully the fires haven't damaged it too much.
