I have been driving this whenever I could get to the Monterey Peninsula since the '60's. I love to just drive up and sit for hours. The tide pools, beaches SURF, SURF, SURF on the rocks are fantastic.

The best free drive on the Monterey Peninsula. You can get everything you want from the pay for it drive. In the spring, the ice plant is in bloom--beautiful!

Very scenic, rides along the shore. An easy ride for novices, not to hilly, has a bike lane, and many places to stop whether on bikes or in cars.

Multi-mile paved walkway, on the site of a turn-of-the-century rail bed. Directly on the Pacific. Always busy, but not crowded

Ocean, waves, wildlife, room to breathe. Can be a little congested during peak season or weekends. Whales can be seen at different times of the year since the undersea canyon runs so close to shore at this part of the coast.

This is an awesome drive. The waves crashing, kids playing, and plenty of parking. We pulled over occasionally and just listened to the waves. Look out for deer--they frequently cross this busy road among the dunes. Bring binoculars. During whale migration, water spouts and fin...More
