This was so fun to drive, taking you right from Palm Springs to Idyllwild in San Jacinto. You go through five biomes on the path and gorgeous views. The windy, twisty parts are lots of fun, and plenty sage. There are also flats and straight areas. Just make sure to pay attention to the speed limits, and pull over into... More

Highly recommended. We frequently travel over the HWY 74 route from home in Temecula down to Palm Desert. The road twists and turns and offer some of the best views over the San Joaquin mountain route and finally down to the desert. Be sure to stop at the Coachella Overlook and grab some pics.

Also known as Highway 74, this is a very scenic mountain-road drive from Palm Desert to Mountain Center, near Idyllwild. The scenery is gorgeous, but the road very twisty, quite narrow and not for the faint of heart. Watch out for bicyclists whenever you get to a sharp turn, watch your speed, stay in your lane and you will be... More

My husband and I were unable to get tickets for the Aerial Tram due to the busy holiday week. We opted to drive our vehicle from the desert floor to the mountain city of Idylwild. The fun twisting road takes you through the spectacular mountains from Palm Desert to Idylwild to Banning and back to Palm Springs. The views from... More

This narrow highway takes you up above the desert floor nicely and provides stunning views of the valley. There is an interpative stop along the way that gives insight to the early valley dwellers. There is also a handy pull out viewpoint. Worth the short drive out of the valley.

This drive was wonderful and left me filled with awe! Absolutely lovely way to get to the Palm Springs area and avoid the highway. The road is very curvy, so must drive carefully! What a treat!

The road starts out very turning road, lots of curves . Once up the hill the road gets better. Open desert hills, I still prefer more trees.

Actually a dangerous winding road with specular view of the valley overlooking Palm Desert area, saw two cars in canyon below that had gone through barrier and landed down the side of the steep canyon, various pull out-as many drivers drive to fast on this road so you have to let them pass or they ride up your exhaust pipe... Very windy but oh my goodness lovely. Nice way to get to Temecula or the coast and avoid some serious highway driving. Come up from basically sea level to some high desert in 45 minutes. Some great view points back into the Coachella Valley but be careful making stops. Also if cold weather can get a bit of snow but... More
