A great little museum for train fans

I enjoyed my visit to Orange Empire. It was almost 100 degrees but we still walked most of the property. Lots of Trolleys and a few rail cars. We rode the PCC and it circled the... read more

This museum is very large. You should wear comfortable shoes and if the morning is cool wear layers so you can be cool in the afternoon. Why? Because you will want to be here for several hours. You can bring a lunchbox and eat your lunch at one of the outside picnic tables. So, the reason to be ready for... More

They have a lot of great running equipment, which they run, and run into the ground. They have a vast collection, most of it tucked away in a building in the back 40, which if you venture back there to look at, is locked. A lot of what they have doesn't run, but sits is disrepair, and out of sight... More

A well stocked museum with a wide range of trains collected from a number of famous railway companies such as Santa Fe, Southern Pacific and L A railway, to name a few. There are electric as well as steam locos of all ages .Make sure you see the Grizzly Flats. The museum is very child friendly and if you are... More

This is a place that I took my kids and they had a blast. They learned allot and at the same time had fun and experienced a piece of history. We have been here for Holidays as well and it is a different type of fun at those times. This is good for young and old alike.

Acres of old trains waiting to be restored Large buildings with restored trains which are only open on weekends or by chance during the week. We couldn't go on the weekend when some restored trains are running, particularly the big steam engine. There are children's areas on the weekends too. We lucked out that one of the tour guides was there... More

I enjoyed my visit to Orange Empire. It was almost 100 degrees but we still walked most of the property. Lots of Trolleys and a few rail cars. We rode the PCC and it circled the museum. A nice collection of railway items.....but a bit dry for folks not real railroad fans. I will return.

This is an out of the way place to find. Once there it is very expansive with operating locomotives and trolley cars. Numerous car-barns located on the property house different cars and locomotives. Interesting to walk around and see rail-history. It is not the Sacramento Railway Museum but enjoyable nonetheless. For the elderly, it involves a lot of walking over... More

We stumbled on this place exploring shortcuts around the area. It's quite large and obviously well stocked. Unfortunately, we arrived near the end of the day and it was packed up tighter than a drum (before closing). So, I guess if they're having a slow day they wrap up early. It was still fun to look at everything visible from... More

We popped in on our way from Palm Springs to Anaheim. We purchased tickets in the shop ($40 for a family) The large ALCO diesel train was running on the hour so we had time for a trip on the new San Diego Siemes tram. On a hot day this air conditioned tram made for a very pleasant ride up... More

I am not a train enthusiast at all but I love this place! OERM is not "just" a train and trolley museum. It's a working train station! All size tracks run throughout the museum grounds and all are used. The museum is more of a railway park; nice grassy areas with plenty of shade trees, picnic tables, and benches. Many... More
