A Most Amazing Place

The area is beautiful and the elephant seals are icing on the cake. We really enjoyed our visit at this time of year as you are allowed to get much closer to the animals. Most of the population is gone and the pups are weaned and on their own to head to the ocean but there are still some bull... More

Visited on a foggy and rainy day in early February which, according to the docent, is the best time of year for elephant seal tours. We did get to observe hundreds of them up close, bulls with big noses, females and noisy babies. The docent was very knowledgeable and offered answers to basically everything we wonder about elephant seals. The... More

You almost certainly will have a great time here. The walk itself is very enjoyable, and the close encounters you get with the animals were plentiful! We were here in January with 2 small children (2 and 4). You can only get in with a guide so it might be a good option to have some form of child backpack... More

This is a really nice tour. The path down towards the beaches is not too long and has nicely been settled. You get a guide this time of the year who takes care you get not too close to the seals and tells you everything you want to know. And of course the seals themselves are impressive and there are... I've been a couple of times now, once shortly before my son was born and back again over New Year's in 2017 when he was 20 months old. BOth times we went in the Winter months when it was cold; if you visit around then be sure to bring a warm set of clothes since it gets windy and frequently... More

We went on a rainy drizzly day. So the elephant seals were a bit more active. They were amazing! You're able to get pretty close, but still feel safe with your docent. To be able to watch the seals participate in sparring, coming up on the beach, and calling to each other was a phenomenal experience. I just wish we... More

My wife and I went there at the 10 am tour. Great tour. Moderate hike. The tour guide was well informed about the Elephant Seals habits and details. The tour lasted about 90 minutes.

We had heard that this was a great place to see Elephant seals and it did not disappoint. After a short walk we were met by one of the docents and taken to the beach area where we were able to see and hear the seals. The large males are the size of a sedan. We were able to see... More

One of the best day trips in the SF Bay Area. For only $7 per person (+ &10 parking per car) you tour the park and see literally 100s of these awesome critters. Well worth the drive and time. Ideally go in late December or early January to see the biggest bulls fight for their harems. But keep in mind... More

Park site states that reservations are recommended but reality is that you need to book your tour before you arrive otherwise it might not be not enough spots available when you arrive.
