The Park area is virtually non-existent. The self-guided mining tour was poor. It is just one horizontal shaft that is mostly too dark to see anything even if there was anything to see! You could walk to the end in about 2 minutes if you...More

I am encouraging everyone to visit this mine to understand what the miners encountered as they dug through the earth looking for gold. Adjacent exhibits and artifacts were all a plus.

You can skip the mine but do not miss the tour and talk of the mining process and the history of the area.

The gold mine here is fascinating - you can tour at your own pace. Our children of middle school and elementary age loved this place. And it is very convenient - only 10 minutes from Placerville.
