We stopped by the Red Oak after visiting the Rosie the Riveter Historical Park nearby. When I asked the woman at Rosie whether or not the ship was worth visiting, I should have been tipped off by the first part of her reply: "Well, I...More

We took a tour and it's fascinating, lots of history after WWII too. The Red Oak has a beautiful view. Be sure to see the Captain's room. Some Sundays in the summer there are pancake breakfasts, also there are movie nights. Worth a visit.

Highlights for this guided or self guided tour are the galley with its working original diesel grill and ovens, the radio room which still is operating. Take the guided tour for $5 more and hear lots of stories about this ship built in 1944 and...More

This is the only surviving ship of the 747 that were built in Kaiser's Richmond shipyards during the war. It was launched in 1944, and decommissioned and mothballed in 1946 after the end of the war. She was re-commissioned between 1947 and 1968, and worked...More
