If you have any desire to develop your, your kids, and/or your grandkids' appreciation for the lifestyle of our Settlers, GET to Sutter's Fort in Sacramento!! The displayed living and working quarters, along with the recorded information, are surprisingly GREAT!! We were very pleasantly surprised by the response of our various generations, most of whom don't get that "The Old... More

This fort is the first settlement of California in the 1800's. Take the opportunity to visit when they have enactment's of the setttlement with people dressed up like they use to. There is a Indian museum on the grounds outside of the fort but is not always open always check ahead of time

The grounds are lovely around the fort with well - maintained gardens, nice walking paths and a lovely bridge crossing a small pond with water fountains and resident ducks. This is a good gathering place for small festivals, a picnic or a trip into the fort itself. Go and enjoy.

Sutter's Fort is one place we never tire of visiting. Its exhibits are easy to access and it is a treat when schools are there "living" the Old West. It is a must see when in Sacramento!

Yes, it's interesting to a point, but not something we would do again. Most of our time was spent in the gift shop while granddaughter shopped for some memorabilia. Just not that much to see here.

We visited on a cold rainy day but still enjoyed our visit. Much of the fort is a reconstruction but the site is impressive and tells the story of sites' history. There were many re-enactors dressed in period costume. A special treat was the group of school children who were spending the night. They were also dressed in costumes and... More

Love taking visitors to Sacramento to the museum. It's most fun during the season when they have history events going on, but you can still do a self guided tour and enjoy the location. Even have a fun little gift store.

We visited Sutter's Fort on December 29 with four adults and six kids. It cost $5 for adults and $3 for kids. The tour was self guided. Most of the rooms had a recording playing that explained what we were seeing. We thought it was interesting, but the kids got bored quickly. I'm glad we went, but I would have... More

To visit this fort in the middle of bustling Sacramento is to get a real sense for how the west was settled. You have to imagine it as sitting in the middle of the empty frontier with nothing around for miles. The importance of this place is highlighted by the rebuilding effort that took place in the 1890's, a clear... More

We only had just over an hour to spend here; wish we had a minimum of two hours. Lots to read, lots to see.
