This place is good for older kids and adults. Lots of think exhibits and interesting info. New exhibits are still being built so we missed those. But otherwise... not a bad way to spend 2-3 hours across the street from the State Capital. And yummy...More

I stopped in for a quick visit. Lots of cool exhibits featuring California history and famous Californians. Good when you've got a hour. Metered parking close to the Capitol. Free parking all over one Sundays. Not far from the Crocker Art Museum which is first...More

Considering its size and the size of California as well as the complex, varied, and fascinating history of this state, the California Museum is not very impressive. It is a decent museum covering the basic range of California history with some interesting exhibits touching on...More

We saw the Light and Noir Exhibit. It was well organized and the materials are clearly marked and explained. My only complaint was with the sound level of the Casablanca exhibit--it was too loud and followed you around the rest of the exhibit. As usual,...More

Within a stone's throw (or 5 minute walk) this traditional museum tells the multiple stories of California. Generally, the captions are wordy and seating is limited. However, in May 2015, there were 2 outstanding exhibits - one about the Japanese in WWII and "Light and...More

This museum was relatively compact but contained many well displayed items as well as hands-on activities. It would be of special interest to those interested in California Gold Rush Days.

The Exhibit about the Treatment of the Japanese was very interesting, but you have to be prepared to stand and read slit. The rest of the museum was of average interest and the need to introduce some helpful signage.
