We had planned a birthday trip to "Steinbeck country" as he is one of our group's favorite author. By nothing more than dumb luck, we happened to hit the center on the weekend of the annual Steinbeck festival and were able to enjoy an excellent walking tour of Salinas' Main Street with an emphasis on how the locations are treated... For someone who is an avid fan and has read most of his books this centre was a wonderful experience. All the books came alive and I could see the care and effort that has gone into creating such a wonderful place.Really enjoyed the visit.

Start on the right with two films: one about Steinbeck and one about Salinas valley farming. Makes for a better understanding of this great author On the left and walk through the history behind his novels. Audio and visual artifacts, old photos and mural representations, dramatic readings, etc. This is enough to prompt purchase another set of the Steinbeck library.... More

Absolutely fascinating museum. If you love Steinbeck then you'll love the place but to be fair, even if yous5never read any of his books it would still be intriguing. It's a brilliant insight into life in the depression, what caused it, how and why people migrated and it's affect on America. There are countless pieces of Steinbeck memorabilia too, his... More

This museum does a wonderful job of detailing the life and times of a legendary American author. The plentiful exhibits and artifacts about local and national history drew me in. I had wondered how a museum about an author came with a recommended minimum visit of two hours, and yet we stayed longer. There is a multi-story parking garage immediately... More

This museum to John Steinbeck is very well done. My wife and I have visited many centers/museums devoted to authors, and this is probably the most extensive. There is nearly an exhibit with video presentation – movie clip or reading - for every major book published by Steinbeck. The docent was friendly and very helpful. We left the gift shop... More

Very modern museum near a car park. Easily accessible for all. Easy walk thru and read format. Short bio film and also people reading sections from his books on film. Most enjoyable and informative. Clean bathrooms too!

We stayed in Monterey and had to see the Steinbeck museum. You have to go but I think once is enough.

Took my teenager here before he started reading Steinbeck novels for school. Well curated. Good bookstore. We spent about 1 1/2 here.

My wife and I were recently in California visiting our son and his wife in LA, CA. We would spend a few days with them, take off for a short road trip, return to LA for a few more days, and then take off again. This past trip we ended up driving up the Pacific Coast Highway to San Francisco,... More
