This was a planned stop on a long drive from Placerville down to Mariposa. We hadn't even hit the "why did we do this" section of Route 49, so I'm glad was stopped at this multi-building bit of history. Easy parking, excellent Hcap access, lovely staff. Make this museum part of your drive!

The court house, history of the Masons and how they influenced the settling of the west. Doctors medical bags, Lydia Pinkham's little magic pills for ladies and their ailments. Dolls, the chinese and how they fit into the mining. Everytime I visit this museum I see something different though I know the exhibits have not changed. A complete law library and... More

The museum was very nice. They have a number of exhibits in the main buildings and outside you go into the old jail yard and jail where Black Bart was once incarcerated. Parts of the old jailhouse yard wall are still there built in 1885. The yard also shows where the town gallows were, the last hanging there in 1888.... More

Definitely worth going to San Andreas to visit this splendid museum. Many interesting displays and lots of interesting writeups. We spent two hours there and afterwards discovered that my husband had become so involved looking through the picture file that he missed half of the second floor! The only negative I have is some of the signs don't meet current... More

Included exhibits on native Americans, geology, mining, home life, professional life, etc. The jail was used until 1964! Self guided. We spent a couple of hours. Highly recommend this museum.

The genealogy society that I belong to took a field trip to this museum and enjoyed it. There is a lot to see. I found it quite dusty in the main room and not too organized, but the vignettes were enjoyable, and the courthouse and jail interesting.

This museum really surprised us. The exhibits were multiple, the buildings, including the jail and courthouse were the real thing and the exhibits so very well done. Good bathrooms even. if you are exploring the area dont miss this one! Eleven year old loved the jail that had held Black Bart the famous outlaw , the courtyard where desperadoes were... More

We planned on an hour and ended up (between the main museum in town and the red barn museum just a short drive away) staying over 3 hours and didn't get to see all of the farm equipment. It's a fun place with a very eclectic collection that gives you a good sense of the history of the area. They... More

We have lived in this area for almost 40 years and had never known about this hidden gem. We had been invited to a art showing at the Museum and decided to take a look around. Almost two hours later we were leaving very happy we had spent the time to see this fantastic pieces of history. The items are... More

Loved this gem of a museum complete with Black Bart's jail cell. There are lots of tatty museums around but this one is real and gives you a good sense of history.
