Nice paved trail around the lake and additional trails that you can hike all around the area. There is a continued walk up to Twin Peaks with dirt trails that branch off to various loops bringing you back around to Discovery Lake.

Low key spot to bring the family or fly solo. Plenty of space on the paths. Both concrete and dirt paths. Different paths for all abilities. Super dog friendly. Has a small play ground and picnic area.

About 3/4 mile around the lake. Lots of other dogs and people. Bikes, runners, and walkers. Many paths to take leading away from the lake. Pick a difficult hill or mild path. Some construction going on around the lake that takes away the ambiance. Nice...More

We used to love to walk around the lake with our dog but hadn't been there in awhile. I knew a developer had secured land on one side of the lake but yesterday we saw that new housing is now going to ring the lake,...More

People are walking, skating, biking around the lake. You can fish for bass and catfish. Easy to reach.

A great place for a flat walk around the lake. Can get busy with cyclists and jogers, but generally people are courteous and moved out of the way. Go early or very late (before they close) and have the trail to yourself. Wheelchair accessible, stroller...More

This area of San Diego county has coyotes, rabbits, squirrels and rattlesnakes - among others. Discovery Lake is not a likely place to see any of the scary ones, but surrounding hiking areas will for sure.
