I use it as a running trail but my kids enjoy fishing in the lake. It is a great place for an afternoon walk and the lake trails can be expanded to cover more. Dogs are welcome as well, but please clean up after them....More
I’ve been walking my dogs around this lake for many years. A big portion of the lake was somewhat secluded almost like you were in the countryside. Not any more more condos and houses now occupy this once scenic end. No longer a peaceful place...More
This place is behind a community section of San Marcos, CA. You would never know it was there. We love to take our dog walking on the trails. Beautiful playground for the kids, including water falls. Great place for a family get together.
I really like this place to walk my dogs. It has defined pathways, and has some shade. It's best when the weather is cooler though. You must bring your own water to drink. The little lake adds a nice touch to look at for part...More
It was refreshing to find a small bit of nature in crowded San Marcos. It almost made you feel you were up in the mountains. They have a very nice lake with ducks and a small dock that you can actually fish off of with...More

Nice paved trail around the lake and additional trails that you can hike all around the area. There is a continued walk up to Twin Peaks with dirt trails that branch off to various loops bringing you back around to Discovery Lake.

This area of San Diego county has coyotes, rabbits, squirrels and rattlesnakes - among others. Discovery Lake is not a likely place to see any of the scary ones, but surrounding hiking areas will for sure.
