Such a beautiful place to tour and the story behind it is amazing. Go for the castle, but also make sure you visit the elephant seal viewing points and stop to visit the quaint city of Cambria. I'd recommend this as an adult trip as I'm not sure kids or teens would enjoy anything beyond the seals.

I did three tours in one day - Grand Room Tours, Upstairs Suites Tour, and Cottages and Kitchens Tour. All were excellent and extremely interesting. The tour guides were extremely well informed with the history of the house, the individuals who had stayed there, Hearst and his architect Julia Morgan, and the furniture/artwork that was viewed. This is an amazing... More

Nature foiled us with pea soup fog. The Neptune pool is torn up for repairs which was very disappointing. I really wanted the family to see it. Tours were very good and informative. Movie before you go up is very good too. Grand beauty! We did grand rooms and upstairs. Enjoyed both. If you only have time for one do... More

We had a great trip up to visit the Castle. Very pretty views and the house is grand! Have visited the Biltmore House in NC and this is a very good comparison. Built in the 20's and the guide was very informative. Bus trip from the visitors Center to the Castle and back. Take a few hours to visit.

My family brought me here as a child so on our recent road trip we decided to re-visit. Luckily we arrived just before one of the tours began so we didn't have to wait around too long. They have 2 different main tours but they are not very good at explaining the difference between them and what would be more... More

Did you know you can rent out parts of the castle? You can get married here or throw an awesome party! And Hearst called it his ranch because his real castle was over the pond. This was my first visit and I'm glad I waited until I was older so I could appreciate the detail and architectural beauty. My husband... More

If you are travelling the Pacific west coast, this is a must-visit. The architecture is mix of European and parts are Islamic. There is opulence as well as good taste as you go from room to room, the entertainment areas, the smoking rooms as well as the fantastic out houses. The scenic vista of the Pacific ocean is mind blowing... More
