You can begin the hike at Castle Rock State park (paid parking) or further down highway 9 if you have someone who can drop you off. The first day is through manzanita, but by the second day you are in the redwoods. Very shady and cool. It goes through Big Basin State park and ends at Waddell Beach where there... More

Start at the top along Skyline Boulevard and hike through the redwoods. You can break up this trail in three sections and eventually get to Big Basin National Park and then to Waddell Beach along Highway 1. If you do it this way you'll need to arrange for people to shuttle you back and forth for each section of the... More

We decided to hike this trail towards Berry Falls. We did not make it all the way to the falls (about 7 miles one way) but did get in a great hike. The first part of the hike takes you up the hill and you get a great view of the valley below. The fog was moving out which added... More

Beautiful views of the Santa Clara Valley. Lots of trails and choices. Sometimes a little steep, and most trails do not have shade. Parking can be a problem because we all want to be there.

This is a beautiful hike! We took the bus from the Santa Cruz metro center downtown on a weekend at 8:30am which took us to the top of the coastal ridge. We hiked down to Waddell beach and that took about 6 hours. We then caught the bus back from Waddell creek to the Santa Cruz metro center at 5:15pm... More

My friend and I did the final 15 miles of the trail begining at Big Basin headquarters ending at Waddell Beach. This is an amazing experience and the trail is a relatively easy stroll through beautiful redwood groves. You also get to visit Berry Creek Falls about half way through which offers a good side hike to the cascade. The... More

This hike is quite challenging. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed. The views are stunnning and change with the seasons. Be sure to take an adequate supply of drinking water. Walking shoes are reccomended.

My friends and I went on a 4 day, 35 mile backpacking trip on the Skyline to Sea Trail. From Castle Rock, we backpacked approximately 11.4 miles to Waterman Gap. At Waterman Gap, there is an outhouse, trash can and potable water. Choosing a campsite is first come, first serve. If unlucky like us as we got there very late,... More

The trails at the top of the ridge were wonderful to run. We got up early, say 6 AM, and ran for about 90 minutes. The maps were easy to follow, the trails well marked and the scenery beautiful. The redwoods were glorious and fragrant and the madronia trees....wow. The only thing for this mountain girl to watch for was... More

Sweet hike! Enjoy another world! We took quite a few trails. Stop in at the ranger station, and they will suggest trails for you depending on your hiking ability, time available, and conditions of the trails. All trails were well-marked, and they will give you a nice trail map.
