Learning how the water flows in an out of San Francisco Bay and all the other local watersheds is the thing at this super model that takes up a couple of blocks. Great informational displays as well, about the flora and fauna of the area, the effect of water treatment systems,---stuff both easy to follow and other stuff more scientific.... More

We went on a weekday with our grandsons. The model is located in one huge building. It was designed as a place to test ideas about the San Francisco Bay area prior to computer simulations. Everything is to scale with landmarks and locations clearly marked. There is plenty of signage to explain how the model was used and why it... More

What a huge undertaking to build this gigantic model of the whole Bay and surrounding area. Great attention to detail, well-maintained, lots of signs displays & explaining what everything is & how it works. This is how everything had to be done before there was computer simulation, and it's very interesting to see it all laid out, glad they kept... More

Best to call before you go. it was our plan for the last day of our vacation to see the model we had heard so much about, so we and some family all met up at the model only to find sorry closed on the door due to unforeseen circumstances, and I guess their psychic cause the unforeseen circumstances will... While visiting our son we took a trip over the Golden gate to Sausalito to a building that holds the model built of San Francisco bay and the delta. It is all concrete and the entire waterway does a simulated tidal flush in 14 minutes. You san see the water rise and lower in all the bays that deposit into... More

It's easy to be wowed by the natural beauty of the Bay area, and the San Francisco Bay-Delta Model explains the many functions (natural and man-made) that contribute to that splendour. Plan to spend an hour with the thoughtfully curated audio tour. It's about the size of 2 football fields and is an impressive feat of scientific research by the... More

If your curious about our water and don't understand what it takes to manage it, this is the place to go. It's quite a impressive model of the intire wateshed and wetlands of Northern California. It was very informative and fun.

Bring old friends, their kids, or your grandkids. It's free and a very cool way to understand how the Bay flows & mixes with fresh water.

So glad I finally got around to visiting the SF Bay Model! Fact-fond nerds, kids and Bay-lovers alike will find this trip worthwhile. The model is very large and gives you a "birds-eye view" of the Bay(s), the "tide" goes in and out every 6 minutes or so and there are video screens and old photos, voice recordings of folk... More

I stopped by one a weekday morning and had the entire place to myself. It was fun to walk around and see the complexity of the project. For me the main thing missing was a lack of mention of climate change/rising seas in the Bay Area. I thought it would have been nice to have an update for tourists/school groups... More
