We were very lucky to have our waitress at our last hotel recommend Solvang as a place to visit on our drive to Carmel on route 101. It is a fascinating place - very European with Dutch style buildings and excellent shops and restaurants. I felt like I was in Denmark with the windmills and street names. It is off... More

We visited Solvang for a couple of days on a trip to see the Hurst Castle. This town has wonderful places to eat, bakeries to tempt the strongest welled dieter and shops that are a treat to wander around in. For a very tired travel this is the area to stop and rest in for a couple of days

Such a lovely place. Small scale architecture influenced by both Danish and German mores. The place (on a Saturday morning) has a real friendly buzz around it and a great selection of boutique stores and deli's. The drive up from Santa Barbara is neatly scenic too. It's a place to just get out of the car and wander aimlessly for... More

This is a delightful authentic Danish village that is not a tourist trap. There are great unique shops, little bistros, bakeries and windmills. We used to regularly take the choice of two scenic drives less than an hour each over the mountain pass or up the coast from beautiful Santa Barbara. Those more venturesome can drive a few miles further... More

Like stepping back in time to unique Danish architecture and atmosphere. Many restaurants and stores to see around town. Plan to spend at least 1/2 or whole day, you will not be disappointed, People are very friendly and helpful in pointing out the many different places to see around town.

Solvang is a boutique town.Unique architecture, houses and atmosphere.People are so nice, so polite and well mannered we kind of felt uncomfortable...cause we are from Miami. Scroll down the main street, enjoy good food. A visit is a must.

Coming from Europe Solvang as a town will strike you as odd. Although they have tried very hard to make it a lovely warm town I feel a strange and utter touristic atmosphere. Still, go there, driving up from LA because to trip to Solvang, taking the PHW1 or any other route is definitely worth the trip.

If you are looking for the Solvang's charming town center with shops, bakeries, etc. then be aware the address listed here is not correct (i.e. Apple Lane: 1200 Alamo Pintado Road, Solvang, CA 93463). Many of the pictures show the actual town area (near Wildling Museum, Mission Santa Ines, etc.) that spreads out along either side of Mission Dr. We thought there... More

I was with a tour group and we visited the Salvang which is chocolate box, Danish village and was founded in 1911 by small group of Danish teachers The city is home to a number of bakeries, restaurants and merchants offering a taste of Denmark in California. The architecture of many of the façades and buildings reflects traditional Danish style.... More

This little place is just five minutes from downtown Solvang, very easy to find. We were greeted by the cutest couple, they were very friendly and welcoming. They have several varieties that ripen at different times of the year. We were able to pick Galas, but they have them for sale at the stand if you would rather. We walked... More
