Sonoma Valley is a wide area of wineries and towns. Its significantly more laid back than its rival Napa Valley. Many wineries allow walk up tasting and many don't even charge a tasting fee. Compare that to Napa where you pretty much have to make a reservation and expect to pay $25pp and up for tastings.

Take a camera. A "REAL" camera. It's hard to imagine. Take time to wander off of HWY 12. Go to Glen Ellen Grocery and buy a nice picnic lunch to enjoy in the valley.

A great place to while away some time meandering from one vineyard to another. Whether you plan ahead to visit certain places or just go with the flow it a great place to visit

We went to Sonoma for my wife's 40th Birthday celebration. We made the choice between Sonoma or Napa Vally. We chose Sonoma. It was a great choice. We know that Napa Vally has one of the best wines in the US, but for visiting for more than 4 days. Sonoma was the best.

There are so many wineries along this road it is overwhelming but with a little research and planning, you can zero in some that appeal to you. Don't try to do them all!

Well, Route 12 is central in Sonoma Valley. Lovely. drive, wineries, country side, local places to eat. Lots of traffic at times, and since I once lived in a tourist area, I have to say I felt sorry for local drivers, though they were at times impatient to the point of endangerment. Pay attention!

Loved visiting Sonoma Valley and compared to Napa it is less posh and more authentic. People are passionate about the craft of winemaking and it is less about being fashionable. Certainly the smaller wineries are worth visiting.

We spent 4 days in Napa/Sonoma Valleys. We definitely preferred the Sonoma Valley because of ease in getting around, availability in parking and shopping. We visited in November, but area was lovely.

We liked that this area is somewhat "condensed" and has beautiful views and plenty of wineries and things to do along the way.
