Nice memorial. Be sure to go into the visitor center and watch the movie. It tells the whole story. Also go and see the markers for the cabins.

What a monument - built to stand above the highest snowfall. And the visitors center was an eye-opener. Not only did it cover the Donner expedition in a compelling way, it also did a good job of telling the story of the pass with the...More

We spent about an hour and a half taking our time reading everything and watching the movie. The displays were interesting and informative, and the facilities were clean.

I stop here every time I come to Lake Tahoe as Donner Lake and the forests are just gorgeous any time of year--and the lake is usually warmer and more swimmable than Tahoe. Of course, the dark history of the place hangs over the park,...More

My husband and I enjoyed stopping here. There is a $10 fee per car. The 20-30 minute movie was a good place to start when you arrive. It's a nicely done memorial of westward movement.

We enjoyed learning more detail about the Donner Party and their tragedy. Make sure to see the movie--it adds a lot of detail.

Read one of the many books first. But, either way, this is a great visit. The walk up and down the lake takes about 90 minutes and is very attractive. Worth the $10 parking fee.
