For the modern family that prefers substance with a unique, laid-back style, Northstar California Resort combines California cool with high-end luxury, on-mountain exhilaration with a sophisticated alpine village atmosphere. Halfway between one of North America's coolest mountain towns and one of the world's most beautiful alpine lakes, Northstar is a destination on the rise, having poured nearly a billion dollars into creating Lake Tahoe's premier luxury snowsports experience. Upscale shops, refined dining and Lake Tahoe's only five-star slopeside lodging is married to impeccable grooming, incredible tree skiing and enough variety to challenge every level of skier (and world-class terrain parks to keep the kids busy). Those who come to Northstar know what they're looking for. Sometimes it's adventure, sometimes it's to learn, sometimes it's to relax in a welcoming place with family and friends. No matter what that experience is, they'll find it to be exactly the way it should be.

I don't ski, but the place has a lot of activitirs

Visited there last feb for a day trip, my 4 & 9 year old enjoyed the ice skating rink. They have nice shops and restaurant in the village. Would love to stay there next time.

Disclaimer: I am an expert skier, but still I can find the joy in shredding groomers in a place like Vail. Vail, this place is not. Sure, the comparisons could be made: faux village, inconvenient parking, high priced tickets and food (even by ski resort standards), but Vail is massive with long runs and village options galore. Northstar aims to... More

Northstar is an excellent place to take a group or family to ski. The mountain is well managed, safe and the employees are courteous. The ski terrain is very good and the 11 of us in our group had a fantastic two days of skiing, unlike our experiences at Heavenly Ski Area. JB

I moved to California three winters ago, and this year had the opportunity to ski at Northstar four times (went once last winter, but it was in the middle of a raging blizzard, so couldn't really tell what was what). Of the Tahoe resorts I've skied, I think this has arguably the best runs - long cruisers that are labeled... More

Trails are good for all ages; not many shops and restaurants in the village but still a great family place. Easy to get to; we flew in to Sacramento and the drive up was pleasant. Good lifts, crowds moderate. Accommodations were good. Snow was great in 2017.

Varied slopes with incredible lodges and friendly staff. Invariably positive staff interactions paired with champagne at tost, lake views at grouse trail, and lovely lodges

When I asked around for the best place to ski in Lake Tahoe, all of my friends recommended Northstar. Having been there for Spring Break, I couldn't be happier about choosing this resort over any of the others. We stayed in the Ski Trail condos, which saved us a lot of money over staying in the Village. They are older... More

The skiing here is always fantastic although I would not recommend it for beginners. Come to enjoy the village and atmosphere even if you're not a skier. The shuttle system from the free parking area to the village operates very well. Our visit came to an abrupt end when my husband collapsed on the mountain. First aid was called and... More

I haven't skied here in years, but I have used the ice rink and it's very good and cheap. The village and surroundings are beautiful. Stop and have a cup of coffee.

Awesome runs on the backside, easy blacks with lots of open space. Catch some lake views from a few spots, like a scavenger hunt. Great family mountain too.
