A Bit of History

True there is not a lot to see and all or most of the remains have been removed. However, it it nice to see that the Chinese are acknowledged as part of Yreka's history.

WE couldn't find the graves. Only one was marked and we don't read Chinese but the memorial itself is nice.

There isn't much to see here. A single stone and 3 plaques. The is some desert area to walk around on behind the memorial. You wouldn't be missing much if you skipped this place. The photos show about all there is to see. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10204146810773033.1073742244.1308874954&type=1&l=8537b70af5

Its very forlornness speaks to the vanishing footprint of a thriving Chinese population in the gold camps of the Gold Rush era.

We were staying in the Yreka RV Park, which is only a mile of two from this cemetery. We like old cemeteries, so of course had to visit, even thought this is more a memorial than cemetery. Yreka's "Chinatown" was located a couple of miles away from the main part of town, up on a hill. In keeping with the... More
